The actual problem

You're not losing to better businesses. You're losing to faster ones.

Nobody chooses the dentist with the nicest website or the installer with the best reviews. They choose whoever picks up. And in most South African small businesses, the person who picks up is also the person doing the work — so half the time, nobody does.

The call that rings out

It goes to voicemail. Almost nobody leaves one. You never learn it happened, so it never shows up as a problem — it just quietly shows up as a slower month.

The quote that takes two days

By the time it lands, they've had two others. The Lead Response Management study — MIT's James Oldroyd with InsideSales, 15 000 leads and over 100 000 call attempts — found the odds of qualifying a lead fall twenty-one-fold between a five-minute reply and a thirty-minute one.

The admin that eats the week

Rescheduling, reminders, chasing, re-typing the same details into three systems. None of it grows anything. All of it costs you evenings.

Nothing on this block is a statistic we are asserting. The sliders open on a plausible shape so the page isn't empty, and every vertical page has its own version with its own starting point. Move them to your figures and the number is yours — the only claim we make here is the multiplication. Where a real published figure is used anywhere on this site, it is named and sourced on the spot.

Where the results section will go

We'd rather show you nothing than show you something we made up.

Awake AI is new. Most agencies would fill this space with stock logos and a made-up percentage. Instead, here's exactly what we measure from day one — and the moment there are real numbers from a real South African client, they go here with their name on them.

The R299 tool

You can absolutely buy a chatbot subscription for the price of a takeaway. It'll be live this afternoon, it'll answer generic questions, and it will be exactly as good as the hour you spend configuring it. For some businesses that's genuinely enough, and we'll say so on the call.

Built for you

We map your actual enquiry flow, write what it says in your words, connect it to your diary and your systems, watch every conversation for a fortnight, and change it when it's wrong. It's the difference between owning a tool and having the job done.

Sound familiar?

Three things we hear every single time.

You cannot answer with your hands in a geyser

The phone rings while you are under a sink, in a roof, or on a distribution board. By the time you ring back they have booked someone else. A missed call is not admin. It is the job going down the road.

Three quotes, and yours is the slow one

Homeowners collect quotes and take the one that lands first far more often than the one that is cheapest. Two days is not a delay. It is a loss.

The 21:00 emergency goes to whoever picks up

Burst pipe, tripped board, alarm screaming, no power on the whole street. That call is worth more than any lead you have ever paid for, and it is the one nobody is awake for.

Put it on your own numbers
R119 808

That is about 10 jobs a month going to whoever answered first. Not lost on price. Lost to silence.

Over a year: R1 437 696
No benchmark is being claimed here. The sliders open on the shape of a busy multi-crew operation so the block is not empty; move them to your own figures and the number becomes yours. The only assertion on this block is the multiplication. One recovered solar lead on its own can be a R150 000 install.
What we'd build for you

Four specific things. Not "AI solutions".

01Home Services

Missed-call rescue in seconds

What it is

The moment a call goes unanswered a WhatsApp goes out in your voice — "Riaan is on a roof, I am his assistant, let us get your quote moving." The lead never has time to cool.

What it solves

The 19:42 burst geyser rings out while you are up a ladder. By the time you hear the voicemail on Thursday, two other installers have already been out to look at it.

02Home Services

Photo-based quote intake

What it is

It asks for a picture of the board, the geyser, the roof or the meter box, then gives a real range instead of "someone will contact you".

What it solves

Half a day of driving across town to look at something a photograph would have answered — and a customer who stopped waiting somewhere around lunchtime.

03Home Services

Diary booking with travel buffers

What it is

Books the site visit into the right slot for the right area, so you are not crossing town twice in one day for two jobs that were three streets apart.

What it solves

Two hours of your day on the N1 because Monday was booked in the order the calls came in rather than the order the jobs sit on a map.

04Home Services

Quote follow-up that never gets embarrassed

What it is

The quote that goes out and is never chased is the quietest way to lose work you had already won. This one follows up politely, and keeps following up, and stops the moment they answer.

What it solves

The quote you spent an evening pricing, sitting unanswered — because chasing it a second time feels like begging for work you had already won.

We put a tracking number on your line, or read seven days of your existing call log, and hand you one number.

The door opener

How many calls you missed while you were on the tools, and what that is worth at your own average quote value and close rate. No pitch and nothing to install. It is usually the first time anyone has put a Rand figure on it. Whatever that number turns out to be, it is yours and it is measured — not a benchmark somebody read in an American blog post.

  • Every hour of seven days, mapped — so you can see whether you are losing mornings, knock-off time or Saturdays.
  • Split by channel, because the call that rings out and the WhatsApp nobody opened are two different problems with two different fixes.
  • Your own average quote value and close rate, not an industry benchmark — we ask you for both and show the arithmetic.
  • The after-hours share, which is usually the number that changes the conversation in the room.
  • One page. No deck, no discovery-call funnel, and yours to keep whether or not you ever work with us.

Answering now — 21:47 on a Tuesday
Live in 30 days, or the month is on us
Riaan read this thread the next morning. The job was already in his diary.

That is the whole product in one screen. A call rings out at 19:42 while you are on a roof, and instead of a voicemail nobody leaves, the customer gets a real answer in their own language on the channel they already use — a price range from a photograph, a slot that fits your route, and a confirmation before they have thought about phoning anybody else.

Nothing about your number changes and nothing gets installed on your phone. It sits on the line you already have, it hands you the conversation the moment it should not be guessing, and for the first fortnight a person here reads every single thread it has and corrects it.

One of these gets built once and licensed to everyone in your industry. That is the difference between an agency and a product company — and it is why this is hard to copy. A competitor can copy an offer in a week. They cannot copy a shipped product.

The whole thing, start to finish

What actually happens when an enquiry comes in.

No jargon and nothing hand-waved. This is the sequence, in order, with the part most people worry about written underneath each step.

  1. 01

A call rings out, or a message lands

Somebody phones the number on your van at 19:42 and you are under a sink. Or a WhatsApp arrives while you are driving. Or the form on your website gets filled in on a Sunday. All three land in the same place, and the clock starts on all three identically.

The bit people ask about: Nothing changes about your number. No app on your phone, no new device, no porting unless you want it. The line you already advertise is the line it watches.
  2. 02

It answers in your voice, in under a minute

Not "thanks, we have received your enquiry". A real reply that greets them by name where we have it, explains in one line why you cannot pick up right now, and immediately asks the question that moves the job forward — whereabouts are you, and what has happened.

The bit people ask about: We write that voice with you before it goes live. If you say "howzit" it says howzit. If your business is formal, it is formal. You approve every line before a customer sees one.
  3. 03

It works out what the job actually is

A burst geyser, a tripped board, a gate motor, a quote for a full rewire — these need different questions. It asks two or three, requests a photograph where a photograph settles it, and builds a picture of the job good enough to price a range from.

The bit people ask about: Photographs are the shortcut. Customers describe problems badly and photograph them well, and a picture of a distribution board tells you more than five minutes of questions.
  4. 04

It gives a real number, and says it is a range

A defensible bracket based on your own rates, with the assumptions stated out loud — "R4 200 to R6 800 fitted, depending on the element and the valve". That is enough to keep you in the running until you can get there and look at it properly.

The bit people ask about: It never invents a fixed price to win a job you then have to walk back. Where the honest answer is "somebody has to see this", it says that and books the site visit instead.
  5. 05

It books the slot into your real diary

Into the diary you already use, respecting the rules you actually work by — which crew does which kind of job, how long each takes, and how much travel sits between two jobs in different suburbs. It offers windows that keep a crew's day geographically sane.

The bit people ask about: A booking that needs a second conversation to confirm is a booking that often does not happen. This one confirms in the same thread, before they have thought about phoning anybody else.
  6. 06

It follows up, and it does not get embarrassed

The quote goes out and then gets chased on a sensible rhythm, in language that does not grovel. It answers the ordinary objection, and it hands the conversation straight to you the moment it becomes a real negotiation.

The bit people ask about: This is the part people skip because chasing your own quote feels like begging. The system has no ego about it, and it stops the second they answer or ask it to.
  7. 07

You get the job, the record and the review

The whole thread is waiting for you when you take your gloves off — who called, what was wrong, what was quoted, what was booked. After the job is done it asks for the review at the moment the customer is happiest, which is the only moment that works.

The bit people ask about: Reviews are the closest thing a South African trade has to a moat, and almost nobody collects them properly because it is nobody's job at five o'clock on a Friday.
Where we work

Cape Town first, the country after that.

We are in Cape Town and most of our home services work is here, which means the system knows the suburbs, the traffic between them and what a sensible window actually looks like. None of it is a technical limit — it is just where we know the ground best.

Before you book a call

Whether this is actually for you.

We would rather lose the sale than take a fee for something that will not move. Here is the honest version of both columns.

You are a fit if

  • You get enough enquiries that missing some of them costs real money — roughly thirty a month and up.
  • They arrive on more than one channel: the phone, WhatsApp, a web form, sometimes email.
  • The person meant to answer is also the person doing the work, so the phone competes with the job.
  • Your average job is worth enough that recovering two or three a month pays for the whole thing.
  • You have a diary, a price list and a way of working — even if all three live in your head right now.

You are not a fit if

  • You are under about thirty enquiries a month and they all arrive on one channel.
  • You are booked solid for the next four months and turning work away already.
  • You want somebody to promise you leads. We do not sell leads; we stop the ones you already get from leaking.
  • You want it fully autonomous with nobody reading it. We will not build that, because that is how it drifts.
  • You need it live next week. Thirty days is the honest floor for something that will still work in month six.

Not sure which column you are in? Take the free Missed Call Money Report first. It costs nothing, and the number it gives you answers the question better than we can.

Home Services questions

The ones we get asked most.

Does this only work for solar?
No. The spine is the same for plumbing, electrical, construction, security and solar — an enquiry arrives, it gets answered fast, it gets qualified, it gets booked. What changes is the questions it asks and the shape of the quote it produces.
Can it quote accurately without seeing the job?
It gives a defensible range from photos and a few questions, and it says plainly that it is a range. That is enough to stay in the running until you can get there properly, which is the entire point.
What about customers who only want a person?
It offers that immediately and fetches you. The difference is that the conversation started in seconds instead of tomorrow afternoon.
Will my customers know they are talking to an AI?
It never pretends to be you. It introduces itself as your assistant in the first line — "Riaan is on a roof, I am his assistant" — which is both honest and, in practice, reassuring: people are far more forgiving of an assistant than of a voicemail. If they ask directly, it says so directly.
What happens if it says something wrong?
It is built to stop and fetch a human rather than guess, and the rules for when it must escalate are agreed with you in writing before it goes live. For the first fortnight a person here reads every single conversation it has and corrects it. An agent that admits it does not know is worth far more than one that always has an answer.
Do I need to change my phone number or buy anything?
No. It sits on the line and the WhatsApp number you already advertise on the van and the invoices. There is no hardware, no app to install, and no porting unless you specifically want a separate tracking number for the free report.
I am a one-man operation. Is this overkill?
Sometimes, and we will tell you. If you are under about thirty enquiries a month, they all arrive on one channel, and the questions are the same three, a R299 tool and an hour of setup may genuinely be the right answer — we have said exactly that to people and lost the sale on purpose. Where it earns its keep is the moment you are on the tools and the phone is ringing anyway.
What does it cost, honestly?
Reception starts at R2 450 a month with a once-off setup. The full front desk — answering, follow-up, reminders, review requests and a dashboard — runs R5 900 to R9 500. Custom software is milestone-billed from R60 000. All of it is on the pricing page in rands, with the reason each one is a range.
How long until it is actually working?
Live in thirty days or the first month is on us. Realistically: a week of audit, two to four weeks of build with you approving every line, then it goes live and we watch it closely for a fortnight. Bigger multi-crew operations with a diary integration sit at the longer end.
What happens to my data, and what about POPIA?
You remain the responsible party; we act as an operator. Conversation transcripts, contact details and whatever the workflow needs are kept for a period you set — twelve months by default, and it can be shorter. When one of your customers asks what is held about them, you get it back within one working day with one-click deletion. That mechanism is built into every deployment rather than promised in a policy.
What if I want to stop?
You keep the workflows, the documentation and your data. There is no lock-in past the first three months, which exist so that both of us can tell honestly whether it is working.
Does it work in Afrikaans?
Yes, and it replies in whichever language the customer opened with. For a Cape Town trade that matters more than it sounds — a customer who writes in Afrikaans and gets an English auto-reply has already decided something about you.

Your competitors are asleep. That's the opportunity.

Start with the audit. It's free, it takes a week, and you keep the report whether or not you ever work with us.

Nothing held back for the sales call

There are thirty-two of these.

Above is the shape of it. The full catalogue lists every single thing we build — what it is, what it actually does, how long it takes and what it costs — plus the four pods you can buy it as, everything it plugs into, and an honest page on when you should hire somebody else instead of us.

Everything we build, at full length.

No "and much more". This is the entire catalogue — what each thing is, what it actually does, how long it takes and what it costs. If it is not on this page, we do not do it.

Every single thing we will build for you.

Filter it if you like, but nothing here is hidden behind a sales call. Each card opens to the full explanation — what it is, why it matters, and what it will and will not do.

Showing
Integrate, don’t replace

It plugs into what you already run.

Nobody wants a system that demands they abandon the diary, the CRM and the accounting package they have used for nine years. This sits on top of what you already have. And where the answer is genuinely a rebuild, we will say so rather than pretend a connector exists.

On models: we are not tied to one vendor. Claude, GPT and Gemini each do some things better than the others, and for legal and medical work we run open-weight models privately so content never leaves infrastructure you control. Which one is behind your build is a decision we make on the merits and tell you about, not a religion.

Including when the answer isn’t us

Who you should actually hire.

There are good firms in this market and some of them are a better fit for you than we are. Here is the honest version, including the cases where you should not phone us at all.

Why there are still no numbers

We can show you the work. We can't show you anybody's revenue.

The four above are real and named with permission. What is missing is a measured before-and-after — that number belongs to the client, and none has published theirs yet. When one does, it goes here with their name on it.

If you would like that to be you: the first three businesses in each industry pay no setup fee and keep their founding rate for twelve months, in exchange for the case study, a Google review and two introductions. That is the whole deal, and it is on the pricing page with the other four.

Published, in Rands, on the page.

AI automation pricing for South African businesses. Ranges, because a five-person practice and a forty-person firm aren't the same job — but real numbers, not "contact us".

What moves the number

Why we quote a range instead of a price.

Volume

Forty enquiries a month and four hundred are different systems. More volume usually means more edge cases, not just more messages.

Channels

WhatsApp alone is straightforward. WhatsApp plus phone plus three forms plus a shared inbox is a week of plumbing before anything clever happens.

What it connects to

A modern diary and a normal CRM: easy. A practice management system from 2009 with no API: not impossible, but honestly quoted.

How regulated you are

Legal and medical work carries POPIA obligations and, often, private model hosting. It costs more because it should.

Why we are the cheapest on this list

Because we would rather have your numbers than your money.

Every figure on this page is under what the rest of the South African market charges, and that is deliberate rather than desperate. We are new. The Results page is empty and we are not going to fill it with borrowed logos, so the only way we get real South African numbers on it is to be the obvious, easy, low-risk yes for the businesses who go first.

The honest version of the deal: help the business first and the rest follows. If your enquiries get answered, your diary fills and your admin stops eating your evenings, you tell someone. In industries where everybody knows everybody, that has always been worth more than a margin. We would rather be paid properly in three years by people who stayed than squeeze the first thirty.

Two things we will not pretend about. These are founding prices and they will go up as the case studies land — the businesses who come in now keep theirs for as long as they stay, and that is in writing. And cheap does not mean thin: the scope on this page is the same scope at any price, because a system that half works is worse than no system at all.

What the rest of the market charges.

Do not take our word for it. Here is what we are priced against — published, with the sources, in August 2026.

Every figure above is theirs, not ours. If one of them has moved, tell us and we'll change the table.

The audit comes first

You get a number before you get an invoice.

Every engagement starts with the audit — free version in a week, paid deep version a flat R2 500 and credited in full against any build you go ahead with. It tells you where the money is leaking and what fixing it would cost. If the honest answer is that you don't need us, that's what it'll say.

Pricing questions

The ones that stop people booking.

What's the setup fee, really?
Usually one to two months of the retainer, depending on how many channels and systems we're connecting. It's quoted after the audit, as one number, before you commit to anything.
Am I locked into a contract?
Month to month after the first three, and the first three exist because that's how long it takes to know whether it's working. If you leave, you keep the workflows and the documentation.
What if my volumes are tiny?
Then Reception at the bottom of the range, or honestly, one of the R299 tools. We'll tell you which on the call and we won't be precious about it.
Do you charge per message or per conversation?
No. Flat monthly, so a good month doesn't cost you more. Model costs are ours to manage — that's our problem to optimise, not yours to worry about.
Is there a cost when it hands over to me?
None. It's meant to hand over. Charging you for the escalations would be an incentive to build something that never escalates, which is exactly the wrong incentive.

A media agency that got tired of watching leads die.

Awake AI is the sister company to Awake Media Agency, and it exists because of something we kept seeing from the marketing side.

For years we ran campaigns for South African businesses and watched the same thing happen. The ads worked. The leads arrived. And then a good third of them simply evaporated between arriving and being answered.

Not because anyone was lazy. Because the person meant to answer was on a roof, in a patient's mouth, or in court. Because the enquiry came in at 20:40 on a Saturday. Because three quotes went out on Monday and ours was the second one.

You cannot fix that with more advertising. You fix it by putting something at the front door that never sleeps, never gets busy, and never forgets to follow up.

Why South Africa specifically

Most AI automation being sold here is repackaged from somewhere else — American playbooks, American assumptions, dollar pricing with a Rand conversion. It doesn't account for WhatsApp being the default channel, for load reduction, for medical aids, for POPIA, or for the fact that a South African customer can tell within one message whether they're talking to something local.

We're in Cape Town. We price in Rands. And we only take on four industries, because going deep in four beats being adequate in thirty.

What we're not

We're not a reseller with a white-labelled chatbot. We're not going to tell you AI will transform your business. And we're not going to put logos on the results page that aren't ours. If a R299 tool would do the job, we'll say so on the call — we'd rather lose the sale than take a fee for something that won't move.

Whatever route you pick, you'll hear back in seconds — which is the point of the whole exercise.

What happens now

  1. Right now. A confirmation is on its way to the address you gave us. If it is not there in a minute, look in the promotions tab before you worry.
  2. Before the call. Nothing to prepare. No forms, no questionnaire. Bring the thing that is annoying you most and we will start there.
  3. On the call. Thirty minutes, no deck. If we are not the right people for the job we will say so and point you at who is.

While you wait

You do not have to take our word for any of it. Everything in the Playground runs in your browser, right now, with no form in front of it.

Need to change it? Reply to the confirmation email, or send us a note and we will move it.

POPIA & your data

Written to be read, not to be defensible. Last reviewed July 2026.

Written for owners, not for the algorithm.

Practical writing about AI automation, speed-to-lead and running a South African business that answers.

Ten articles, all of them written, all of them free to read without giving us anything. Every figure in them is either sourced against a named study or marked as your own number to fill in — we do not estimate on your behalf, and we do not publish percentages we cannot trace.

An AI agency vs a R299 tool.

An honest comparison, including the cases where the cheap tool is genuinely the right answer.

Choose the tool if…

You're under about thirty enquiries a month, they arrive on one channel, the questions are simple and repetitive, and you enjoy tinkering. That's a real scenario and we'll say so on the call.

Choose built-for-you if…

Your jobs are worth more than a few thousand Rand, enquiries come from everywhere, the answers depend on things only your systems know, or you're in a regulated industry. The maths gets obvious fast.

Come find us We answer on all of these too — usually before anyone else does.
